Lexicon Research Naming Your Drug Rehab – It Matters A Lot

Posted on Jun 15, 2015 by Jim Peake

Cartier Brand NameUsing descriptive names is almost the standard in the drug rehab industry. Why? Because back in the old PPC days google ranked domains with the keyphrases very high. Today much less so. Here is a video of Matt Cutts talking about the Brandable Domain Names vs. Keyword Domains.

Here’s a brief overview of how some of the world’s biggest brands came up with their names. The overview is by Jonathan Bell the founder of Want Branding.

If I was starting a new addiction treatment business I would hope to read an article like this before I chose a name. I believe it would help me distinguish my business from the thousands of others in the drug rehab space.

What is lexicon? What is lexicon research in the drug rehab industry? According to Google Lexicon means: the vocabulary of a person, language, or branch of knowledge. According to me lexicon in the drug rehab industry means the name of the business used to market to the general public.

The problem I see today is that most drug rehab centers have lousy names and they are not memorable, brandable, trademarkable, defendable and they are just plain forgettable. It is my belief that in order to be successful in the addiction treatment industry (and for any other industry for that matter that generates leads) TRUST is the single biggest factor for getting website visitors to pick up the phone and call. Additionally, TRUST is what converts a website caller into an admission. The call center agent must be connected to the caller and develop TRUST in order to secure an admission.

Let’s discuss who might be naming their drug rehabs correctly. Let’s start with:

Promises

Can you name a few more one word brands in the drug rehab space? Have you heard of these guys above? I bet you have. Can you remember their logos? I bet you can. This is called branding using smart lexicon naming. Notice how you only have one word for their domains as well.

(Disclaimer: I like all of you developed my company name because of some sort of legacy. The story of my name of the original business is here on Speech-Rep. I chose to keep the “Rep” part of the name in other businesses and niches like Addiction-Rep, Webdesign-Rep and Postcards-Rep. This naming and lexicon convention does not follow the advice I am sharing in this article because it is really too late to change. Knowing what I know now I would have different names for the different niches).

Here are some guys who need a lot of improvement in their names of their businesses in my opinion. I am starting with the letter A and I am not going down the whole alphabet but you will get the idea pretty quickly.

OK I think you might get the picture here. Can you recall any of these centers logos? Can you remember the names of these drug rehabs? Do any of them stand out? Go here to Search Trademarks and see how many of them are trademarked.

Why are trademarks important? Trademarks are important so that other businesses and marketers cannot use your name in Google Adwords. You can register your trademark with Google and you can stop others from using your name in their ads. People typing in the name of your business typically are the highest converting keywords. Why make it easy for your competition to advertise your name on Google and then convert the person who thought they were calling you into their center? If you think it doesn’t happen it does.
Using descriptive names is almost the standard in the drug rehab industry. Why? Because back in the old PPC days google ranked domains with the keyphrases very high. Today much less so.
