If you are building a house you are going to want a strong foundation. Make sure you hire a contractor that knows what they are doing or else you are going to do it over again.

I got a call the other day from someone who left a vmail and said, “I want to talk to you about Building a Better SEO Houselead generation and SEO for my Drug Rehab.” I’m always happy to hear from these types of folks because I know I can help them improve their situation usually pretty quickly. Then comes the zinger…..”oh Jim, actually we already hired someone because they are an SEO team that is “local.” My first thought was he is about to spend a ton of money and help this “Local SEO Team” cut their teeth in the drug rehab business. I see this ALL THE TIME. My second thought is why does he still want to talk to me? He just hired someone and said I did not qualify because I was not in his zip code. Then what happens sometimes is I get a call 6 months or a year later telling me, “Hey guess what? My SEO efforts aren’t working.”

In many cases for “local businesses” using a “local in proximate SEO teams” might make sense. Most residential drug treatment centers need to hire a team that can advertise nationally. Most industries in the SEO game are not as competitive as the drug rehab space, costs per clicks are less than $10. However if you are in Mortgages, Insurance or Drug Rehab you might be well advised to hire someone in those specific niches because the learning curve is steep, really steep. Also at the end of the day if your SEO team is walking into your office on a daily or weekly basis they are probably not doing what they were hired to do. That said it is still important to have an internal team member managing the SEO team on a regular basis. A lot of times they are the important liaisons between content and the SEO/social media team in terms of publishing quality content.

Finally, in terms of hiring an SEO team it makes a lot of sense not to ask for a “proposal.” Proposals are a waste of time. If you do get a proposal what you will get is a cut and paste job from a previous client. I know I used to write them all the time….or I should say I used to edit proposals all the time. The way we handle the proposal route is we give you a “website audit and marketing strategy.” This takes time. It requires research, custom research on your domains, your business your direct competitors. Once we complete the research we deliver a custom marketing strategy that your team or your SEO team or we can assist you in executing. This is an exhaustive document/spreadsheet that takes between 20-30 hours to develop. We go over our finding with you in detail. Then based on our findings we work together to come up with a budget that will give you some results that you can live with and are pleased with. I find the best results when our clients with my SEO team work hand in hand.

If you are looking for help in the improving your website and SEO traffic then fill out our website audit and marketing strategy form and I will call you to take you through the next steps.
